| The Backpacker's Guidebook |
After what seemed like days of silence but was just a minute or two, he asked, "Why not?" I said, "If you are going to go, go for two months, not two weeks." After we got the length of the trip out of the way, my next questions were, "Who are you going with?" and "Do you have any guide books?" His expansive male responses to the questions were, "No one" and "No." "I am just going to stay in hostels and camp," he said. Well, he ultimately took the trip and it was a wonderful experience. But had he had "The New Backpacker's Guidebook" published this year by Craig McMahon, I am sure his trip would have been much easier. Craig's book is aimed at first time travelers and is a small, easy to carry, easy to understand guide book. Filled with practical and philosophical insight, The New Backpacker's Guidebook is an excellent resource for budding travelers who can't wait to encounter various challenges and experiences as they travel around the world. Many college students decide they are ready to travel the world, either during summer vacation, during the school year or following graduation. Based on my son's experience, it is imperative to have several good guide books, including one that gives you practical knowledge in areas such as: preparation; what to take, to travel alone or with someone; what if you forget items; what to do in an emergency; and many other such topics. Craig's book addresses these and a variety of other topics in a style that is clear, practical and concise. While this book is aimed at first time travelers, the material can be used by anyone, experienced or inexperienced, traveling in America or traveling internationally. In today's world, it is imperative that anyone traveling abroad be prepared and knowledgeable about where they are going, how they will adjust to changes in schedule and plans, and possible natural or man- made problems. Craig's book helps fill that void and will make any trip much more enjoyable than one that has only “fly by the seat of your pants” planning. The guidebook provides assistance and assurance with common sense advice, tips, stories and checklists. Make sure you read "The New Backpacker's Guidebook" by Craig McMahon, before your begin planning your trip. About the Author Craig McMahon has traveled throughout the European continent and then eventually made his way from St. Petersburg to Beijing via the Trans-Mongolian Railway. He spent a few years after graduate school - by working as a public librarian and a high school educator - in order to save enough money for his first long-term travel. Leaving for Ireland in early 2008, he originally planned to see a handful of countries in Europe, but plans changed... |
